Name: Richard Gardner
Job Role: Retired Accountant, NHS/Healthcare Volunteer
Running For: Friends of The Royal London Hospital (Whitechapel)

What inspired you to run for the Hospital Friends?

As a volunteer at The Royal London, I witness at first hand the dedication of the hospital staff, and the courage and trials borne by the patients, so I just want to help them all by providing the means to improve their experience of life in hospital.

What are your goals in taking part in the Asics London 10k?

I am a very average runner, so I have no particular target time – other than to complete the race; and I just want to enjoy the experience, raise funds, and increase awareness of the work of the Hospital and the ‘Friends of The Royal London’.

Tell us something personal about what running and/or supporting charities mean for you?

Running lets me free my mind and body from immediate worries/constraints, and although it is more painful these days, it still gives me a buzz to finish a run and feel good. To combine this with raising funds for my chosen charities is a real win/win!

If you would like to see who else is running, make sure to have a look at their running profiles, or if you would like to donate click here.

The Friends of the Royal London Hospital is a charity dedicated to improving hospital amenities for both patients and staff. It has links to the Residential Support Department at Queen Mary University and is also connected to Queen Mary medical students, who complete some of their course at the Royal London Hospital.
